On Monday, 12th April 2021, the day after his perpetual incorporation into the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, Bro. Eugene Kodzo Adzaklu, C.Ss.R. of the Redemptorist Mission of Ghana, was raised to the office of deacon in the company of five candidates of the Diocese of Ho.

The Mass of the transitional diaconate ordination was presided over by Most. Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, S.V.D, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ho at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Church, Ho-Bankoe. Fr. Luis Carlos Murillo, C.Ss.R, Superior of the Province of Bogota (Mother Province of Mission of Ghana), Fr. Christian Ewoenam Klu, C.Ss.R, Superior of the Mission of Ghana, and some Redemptorist priests joined the few priests who concelebrated the Mass. Although COVID-19 protocols prescribed few attendees, the parents of Bro. Adzaklu and some Redemptorist students had an opportunity to attend; meanwhile, others watched the Mass being streamed live on social media.

Bishop Fianu, the ordaining prelate, reflected on the day’s scriptural readings and invited the candidates to be like Nicomedus who would acknowledge their weaknesses, emptiness and inability to know-it-all. Thus, the bishop encouraged them to humble themselves and seek guidance and assistance in all dimensions of their lives to carry out their duties as deacons faithfully.

On being bestowed the gift of ordination, our Redemptorist confrere and the other candidates who though wore face masks exploded with joy that was written all over their faces; for they could not have been less happy for what God has done in their lives.

After the ordination, Rev. Eugene Kodzo Adzaklu, C.Ss.R, clad in his dalmatic, enjoyed some “paparazzi” moments as he joined his Redemptorist confreres, students, parents, family, friends and others for snapshots. He was later in the day given a heartwarming “jamma” reception (cheers of songs and congratulations) at the Scala Postulancy Community in Sokode-Etoe.
