Amid the chaos that reigns in the Haitian capital, the Redemptorists celebrated the priestly ordination of two young deacons. It is with the immense joy of the community that I share this good news with you.
On Sunday 17th October, one day after the feast of St. Gerard Mayela, the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, in particular the Region of Port-au-Prince, in an atmosphere of joy and thanksgiving, celebrated the priestly ordination of the deacons Jonas SEIDE, C.Ss.R and Jokébed LEONARD, C.Ss.R in the parish of St. Gerard, by the imposition of the hands of His Excellency Mgr Louis N. KÉBREAU, S.D.B., Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Cap-Haïtien.
In his homily during the celebration, the Archbishop invited the ordinands to be servants of the poorest like the Lord Jesus Christ. He also reminded them that he asks them to be attentive to interpret the signs of the times.
We wish the two new priests a fruitful ministry. We entrust them to the protection of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, the patroness of the country. And may they be priests, as Pope Francis has said, “shepherds with the smell of sheep”, and may they be, like our holy founder, St. Alphonsus, bearers of the Good News on the peripheries of this wounded world.
Fr. Renold ANTOINE, C.Ss.R.
