Explaining the situation in Ecuador after the earthquake and aftershocks in Ecuador, Fr. Sixto Guerrero, Superior of the Province of Quito (Ecuador), he wrote a letter on April 22: “After I reported the earthquake, early communications they were not easy, especially with Manta community because in this house they left without electricity and drinking water. The confreres of the three communities of the Ecuadorian coast have not been affected; the structures of the buildings are fine except that of the Church of Manta, the windows of the presbytery have come down, and some walls of the Church are affected. At first glance, it seems that the structure is OK, in good condition, but we wait wath technicians will tell soon. Today the four confreres who live in that community of Manta feel fearful, especially by the constant aftershocks of great intensity, and thought stop celebrating the Eucharist in the Church for security reasons”.

“We see that we need an action plan for all Redemptorists here, with the collaboration of Redemptorist Laity, for these emergencies and parish emergency aid in the boondocks of the parish center of Manta. If the needs overwhelm us, we call the CER (Ecuadorian Conference of Religious) or the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference. This Plan will require lay advisers if we undertake work as Redemptorist missionaries, and if the contributions are significant”.

“We have opened a bank account to receive assistance by Redemptorists of Latin America, Spain, Italy. Also of the “Association for Solidarity” (Asociación para la Solidaridad) of the Province of Madrid, family and Ecuadorians living in the United States”.
This account is temporary and exclusive to the contributions of solidarity. Actually, it would have been better to create name “Redemptorist Missionaries” but the economic council believed more convenient to open a personal account.
The account is open in:

Banco Bolivariano
