The second day of the Congress on Perpetual Help in Madrid was dedicated to presentations on various topics.
During the morning Fr. Víctor Chacón, Redemptorist of the Province of Madrid presented a session on the theme “From St. Alphonsus to Perpetual Help: Roots of Marian Spirituality in CSsR “. He brought out different aspects of Marian devotion in the life and work of St. Alphonsus and in the spirituality of the Congregation, and finally presented Mother of Perpetual Help as an icon of redemption.
The first presentation of the afternoon was made by Teresa Domínguez del Campo, a specialist in iconography, who talked about “The meaning of the icon today”. She reminded us that the icon is the image that captures and expresses the divine, and has highlighted the figure of the iconographer as the figure that intrigues what the Spirit has revealed to him/her.
The second session in the afternoon was given by Fr. Marek Kotynski, a Redemptorist confrere of the Warsaw Province, who talked about “The spiritual meaning of the Icon of Perpetual Help”. During his speech, he made an explanation of the icon in its signs, colours, words, characters until it is being converted to us as a sign of mercy.
The day ended with the celebration of the Eucharist presided over by P.Jorge Ambel, during which Fr. Seamus Enright preached the homily, speaking to us about the devotion of Perpetual Help in Ireland.
