Today the world is experiencing migration of peoples on a scale previously unknown. Many families are forced from their homes by war, violence, persecution and fear. Others seek to leave behind poverty, famine, and environmental changes which threaten their survival. Religious and political oppression also drives many to seek refuge elsewhere.

At a time when the worldwide mass movement of peoples challenges nations and all of our communities to welcome our neighbours, Redemptorists are proud of our brother, Cardinal Joseph Tobin, C.Ss.R., and his voice on behalf of the voiceless. This year his ministry for and with immigrants is honoured with the St. John Neumann award. Following in the footsteps of St. John Neumann, C.Ss.R., who worked tirelessly among immigrants to the United States, Cardinal Tobin continues to witness to the Redeemer. Congratulations on this recognition! We promise you our prayers and support, in solidarity for the mission in our wounded world.
