(Guayaquil, Ecuador) – Hundreds of faithful came to the corner of the streets of Chimborazo on August 10, and the refrain: “Mother of the Redeemer / Missionary Virgin / your name is Perpetual Help”, resounded until the Cathedral, where at 1:00 PM the Archbishop of Guayaquil, Monsignor Luis Cabrera, officiated a holy mass in honor of the Mother of Perpetual Help.
The procession left at 10:30, from the parish of Perpetual Help, located in José Mascote and Maldonado, with an image that arrived in the city on Saturday from Riobamba. The copy of the icon was brought to this last city from Rome.
It is a replica of the Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help blessed by Pope Francis that will visit several countries to spread this devotion among the faithful.
“Five images were distributed to the five continents. And from here it will travel to Peru, Colombia and other countries, “said William Herrería, coordinator of the Emmaus Missions movement.
The icon that was brought by the faithful was decorated with yellow and white flowers.
During the procession a group that arrived at 12:15 before the Cathedral, sang fervent hymns composed to the Virgin Mary. ‘Mary the white dove’, ‘Mother of youthfulness’, etc. were some songs that were heard. From a small truck, Édison Álava and Daniel Rizzo animated the pilgrimage with guitar and keyboard.
The image of the Mother of Perpetual Help was on pilgrimage in the country until 15th (Wednesday) November. On November 13, the icon was taken to the Sanctuary of the Divino Niño and to the San Juan XXIII parish, in the Duran canton. On 14th it was taken to the sanctuary of Narcisa de Jesus, in Nobol.
