(Rome, Italy) – In January and February 2018 five regional assemblies took place in Southern Europe, in the line of the Extraordinary Visits of the General Government to the Congregation. In order to share the results of the assemblies and to continue the reflection to adopt concrete measures towards a commitment of solidarity with the missionary implications of restructuring the Major Superiors and Extraordinary Councils met with the General Government in Rome.
The meeting took place from February 28 to March 2, 2018, and had to be relocated from Francavilla al Mare to Sr. Alphonsus House, Rome, due to heavy snowfall in Italy. The Provincials and Provincial Councilors of Naples, Rome, France, Madrid and Lisbon were present at the meeting led by Father General Michael Brehl, the two European General Councilors and the Coordinator of Europe.
The Provinces of Southern Europe are facing urgent questions regarding the future development of the Redemptorist mission. A large majority of the confreres and lay Redemptorists present at the gatherings during the previous weeks have, in this context, advocated and worked on closer cooperation of the Redemptorists in Southern Europe. At the Meeting of the Major Superiors with the General Government, these reflections were further developed with a view to the Apostolic Priorities, Community Life and Redemptorist Formation, and the restructuring of the Provinces of Southern Europe.
