VI National meeting of the Redemptorist Brothers from 12 to 16 August 2019

(San Leopoldo, Brazil) The Redemptorist Brothers Missionaries of the URB, together with a Brother from the Province of Paraguay, held the VI National Meeting of the Redemptorist Brothers (NMRB) from 12th to 16th of August. They had the grace to have the presence of Father Rogério Gomes, General Consultor and 3 priests: Fr. Vitor Edezio Borges, provincial of Porto Alegre, Fr. Edilei, provincial of Campo Grande and Father Claudio Mallmann, rector of the Sanctuary of the Mother of God of Porto Alegre.

The meeting was organized by the Province of Porto Alegre and was held at Christ the King Spiritual Center in the city of San Leopoldo, 30 kilometres from Porto Alegre. It was a beautiful moment of celebration, study and friendship.

Brother José Mauro Maciel helped us reflect on the origins of the Redemptorist and pioneer of brothers today. The brothers from the beginning have contributed to embody the Redemptorist spirituality and charism. Maciel also spoke about identity and vocation, relationships and coexistence. The content of his presentation was very fruitful.

The group also had the grace of having the presence of Father Gelson Luiz Mikuszka of the Province of Campo Grande, who presented us on the topic of formation on human relations in our consecrated religious life as Redemptorists. Moreover, he also spoke about the relationship, fraternal coexistence, personal fulfilment and happiness. The brothers should feel prepared for the call to the mission entrusted to them in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer.

Father Rogério Gomes presented the steps to follow after the meeting and the mid-sexennial Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Conference held in Mexico. He also commented on the document produced by the Commission on the Brothers, which is presented at the meetings of the middle of the sexennium.

The brother is the bearer of the Redemptorist charism and for his missionary nature must remain with this reality in the world through direct and indirect action following the experience of St. Alphonsus, Gerard Majella and our Redemptorist models.
