Appointment of the Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainian faithful of Byzantine rite residing in Germany and Scandinavia

The Holy Father has appointed H.E. Msgr. Bohdan Dzyurakh, C.SS.R., titular Bishop of Vagada, as new Apostolic Exarch for the Ukrainian faithful of the Byzantine rite residing in Germany and Scandinavia until now Bishop of the Curia and Secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church.

H.E. Msgr. Bohdan Dzyurakh, C.SS.R. was born on March 20, 1967, in Hirske, Mykolaiv Province, Lviv Region. In 1990 he entered the Diocesan Seminary of Drohobych.

He was ordained a priest on March 17, 1991, and professed perpetual vows in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer on August 19, 1995.

He continued his studies in Theology obtaining his Doctorate in Warsaw, after having attended some courses also in Strasbourg (France) and Innsbruck (Austria).

During his ministry as a Redemptorist religious, he has held various positions: Prefect of the studentate in Strasbourg (1998-2000), Spiritual Director in Innsbruck, Novice Master in Lviv (2001), Spiritual Director, Vice-Pastor and coordinator for spiritual assistance to the prisoners of Lviv. He also collaborated with the chaplains of the Rehabilitation Center for children with cerebral palsy.

He was consecrated Bishop on February 15, 2006, serving until now as Bishop of the Curia and Secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church.

He is fluent in Russian, Polish, French, German, and Italian.
