A Study Day will be held on 24 March 2021 in the Aula Magna of the Alphonsian Academy in Rome, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of St. Alphonsus M. de Liguori Doctor Ecclesiae. The activity is organised in compliance with the Coronavirus emergency security measures. The event will be streamed live on the Teams platform (“Students” channel) and the Alphonsian Academy YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/accademiaalfonsiana. The language of the event is Italian.
The celebration will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a welcome by Fr. Michael Brehl, Superior General of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (C.Ss.R.) and Moderator General of the Alphonsian Academy. Prof. Alfonso V. Amarante, C.Ss.R., president of the Academia Alfonsiana, and at 9:45 a.m. Prof. Marciano Vidal, C.Ss.R., professor emeritus of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas and director of the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Morales (ISCM) of Madrid (Spain). Prof. Vidal will speak on ‘Alfonsian Morality. A review of the historical reading’.
At 11:00 a.m., Prof. Raphael Gallagher, C.Ss.R., former professor of the Alphonsian Academy, will speak on ‘The relationship between grace and conscience in the process of moral discernment in Saint Alphonsus’, and at 11:30 a.m. Prof. Sabatino Majorano, C.Ss.R., professor emeritus of the Academy, will speak on ‘The actuality of Saint Alphonsus’ moral proposal’.
At 12:00 p.m. will close the day on the 150th anniversary of St. Alphonsus M. de Liguori, Fr. Andrzej S. Wodka, C.Ss.R., current President of AVEPRO (Agency of the Holy See for the Evaluation and Promotion of Quality of Universities and Ecclesiastical Faculties).
