(Pagani, Italy) By organising various events, the Redemptorist community of Naples Province wants to underline the importance of the jubilee commemorating the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of St Alphonsus de Liguori as Doctor of the Church, which took place on 23 March 1871 by Pius IX with the bull Qui Ecclesiae Suae.
Provincial, Fr. Serafino Fiore C.Ss.R, presided at the Eucharist on the evening of 24 March in the Basilica and St. Alphonsus Shrine to inaugurate the anniversary celebrations with the Redemptorist community and the faithful.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, scheduled his visit to Pagani on August 1, 2021, to preside at the Eucharist on the occasion of the feast of St. Alphonsus. Thus, the presence of the Vatican Secretary of State is at the heart of the jubilee of the proclamation of Alfonso de Liguori as a Doctor of the Church.
As a Redemptorist, we very much appreciate that after receiving a gift of the letter sent by Pope Francis to Father General Michael Brehl on the occasion of this anniversary, we can welcome yet another gift with the presence of Cardinal Parolin in Pagani.
This is the second time that the Secretary of State of His Holiness will stand at the tomb of Saint Alphonsus. His first visit to the Basilica and the city of Pagani was on Sunday 13 October 2019, on the occasion of the 42nd regional convocation of the groups and communities of the Renewal in the Holy Spirit in Campania.
