(San Luis Potosí, Mexico) – From the end of January 2022 and during February, the Redemptorist Province of Mexico are rejoicing in a unique celebration: the St. Alphonsus Minor Seminary, located in the city of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, marks 75 years. On this occasion, a great joy filled many people’s hearts that had passed through this Institute. Due to the presence of COVID in our environment, it was necessary to organise the celebration in a particular way. However, this did not diminish the joy.

The celebration began on February 11 with a Eucharist where the Redemptorist formandi received gifts. Those in their first year of the high school received the book “Visits to the Blessed Sacrament” written by our founder St. Alphonsus. The students in their second year of high school were given a rosary. The students of the Propaedeutic course were also given a Redemptorist cross. During this celebration, the place where the relics of St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, St. Gerard Maria Mayela, St. Clement Maria Hofbauer, St. John Neumann, Blessed Genaro Maria Sarnelli and Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos were placed was blessed.

The following day, February 12, a solemn Eucharist was celebrated in our Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. At noon, the mass began and was presided over by the Archbishop of San Luis Potosí, Monsignor Jesús Carlos Cabrero Romero. After the Eucharistic celebration, a lunch was held at the St. Alphonsus Minor Seminary. There, a plaque commemorating the event was unveiled, the congratulatory message sent by Father General Michael Brehl was joyfully listened to and “Vivat in aeternum” was sung with joy.

Thanks be to God for these 75 years of blessing our Congregation through this formation house. Thanks to our Missionary Sisters of Perpetual Help, who supported this Seminary with their service for many years. Thanks to so many confreres, teachers, benefactors, employees, students who have passed through and given so much effort, love and life so that this Institution may continue to exist. With a heart full of gratitude to so many people: thank you very much!
