Msgr. Waldo Rubén Barrionuevo Ramírez, C.Ss.R.

On July 7, 2022, Msgr. Waldo Rubén Barrionuevo Ramírez, C.Ss.R., departed to the house of the Father. He was Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Reyes in Bolivia, National Director of the Pontifical Missionary Works and President of the Area of Evangelization of the CEB. Pastor of the Church who stood out for being a missionary in his land, preacher of the Gospel, always at the side of the difficulties and hopes of the people, especially the simplest and weakest.

The website of the Bishops Conference of Bolivia reports that Msgr. Waldo, who was hospitalised in the Arco Iris Hospital in the city of La Paz, died of irreversible brain death. He takes with him the affection of the Bolivian Church and all those who knew him.

Biography:

Waldo Rubén Barrionuevo Ramírez, C.Ss.R., was born in Oruro on 9 September 1967.

He entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in 1989 and began his formation as a postulant in Cochabamba; he continued his novitiate in Tupiza in 1991 and then studied theology in Cochabamba in 1992.

He made his religious profession in 1992. In Tupiza, a year of pastoral work preceded his ordination to the priesthood, celebrated in Cochabamba on October 25 1997.

From 1996-1999, he was an extraordinary consultor of the Redemptorist Province in Bolivia. From 1997 to 2000, he was a missionary team member in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. For four years, from 2000, he was sent to Oruro as a collaborator of the Master of Novices, then from 2004 to 2006, he served as Master of Novices.

In 2007, he was appointed as a parish administrator of the Parish “Nuestra Señora de la Paz” in Cochabamba. From 2009 to 2010, he directed the Missionary Team in Santa Cruz de la Sierra as Superior.
He attended courses in Missiology at the Higher Institute of Theological Studies – ISET, in Cochabamba.

In 2010, he was sent to the San Alfonso College of the Redemptorists in Rome. As a student, from 2010-2012, he attended courses for the licentiate in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and, from 2013, courses in Dogmatic Theology at the same Athenaeum.

His episcopal ordination took place in the town of Reyes on May 14 2014.

On February 18 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Vicariate of Reyes.

On May 31 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Vicar Apostolic of the Vicariate of Reyes.
