(Valencia, Spain) Last Thursday, November 10, the parish community of the Nazareth neighborhood of Valencia, where Redemptorist missionaries have been working since 2009, inaugurated and blessed the new headquarters of the Obra Social Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados. This reform was possible with the collaboration and generosity of various people and institutions, among which the NGO Redemptorist Association for Solidarity stands out.
With this renovated space, the goal is to coordinate and unite the 5 assistance and social promotion projects linked to the Parish: Parish Cáritas; Progetto Mare for the attention, accompaniment, and training of women at risk of exclusion; Our Lady of the Defenseless Parish School; NSD+ project for attention to school-age children through sport and school strengthening; and Grupo Scout Iter which works for the non-formal education of children and young people by rendering their healthy free time.
The date of the inauguration providentially coincided with the 80th anniversary of the Parish, thus it became a precious tribute to all the people who, in these years of history, from the parish have worked on behalf of the neediest in the neighborhood.
The proceedings began with the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Francisco Javier Caballero, Provincial of the Redemptorist Missionaries of the Province of Madrid. After the celebration, there was an act of gratitude to all those who allowed the Obra Social Ntra. Sra. De los Desamparados to emerge today as the “unifying umbrella” of the charitable activities of the parish community of Nazareth. The event continued with the visit and blessing of the renovated premises and concluded with a fraternal banquet on the premises of the parish school.
