The Granada-born Servant of God Conchita Barrecheguren will be beatified in May following the recognition of a miracle by the Vatican. The fact recognised by the Holy See is the healing of a 16-month-old girl from multi-organ septic shock.
Conchita Barrecheguren, who died of tuberculosis in 1927 at the age of 22, will be beatified on the 6th of May in Granada Cathedral after the Vatican recognised a miracle through her intercession, according to the Archdiocese.
The devotion to the young woman from Granada, who lived her illness with deep faith, has spread throughout Spain and other countries such as Germany, France, Mexico and Venezuela. This devotion led some people to pray a novena to Conchita, asking for her intercession in healing the little girl.
Conchita Barrecheguren was declared Venerable on the 6th of May 2020, together with her father Francisco, who – once widowed – made religious profession as a Redemptorist missionary in Granada and was ordained a priest.
On the 21st of May 2022, the Holy See announced the promulgation of the decree recognising the miracle attributed to the young woman from Granada, which has now allowed her forthcoming beatification in the Cathedral of Granada, the city where she lived, suffered her illness and died.
The Mother of Perpetual Help shrine in Granada houses Conchita’s tomb and is a place of prayer on the 13th of every month in memory of the day she died.
A guided tour of the places linked to the Barrecheguren family is also planned for the 21st of January.
