The General Assembly of the Redemptorists of Units of Fortaleza, Goiás and Recife was held at the Salesian Colony, from 6 to 10 February, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes-PE in Brazil. More than one hundred confreres participated, as well as lay representatives of the three Units. The General Government was represented by two General Consultors – Frs. Jairo Díaz and François Stanula. There were also present the Procurator General of the Congregation, Fr. José Carlos Júnior, and the coordinator of the Latin American and Caribbean Conference, Fr. Marcelo Conceição de Araujo.
The meeting aimed to organise the new unit’s creation, scheduled for September 2023. The assembly approved the Regulations governing the launch of the new province, and it welcomed the proposal of the Directory for administration and economic issues.
The assembly approved the seat city and the name of the new unit in the Congregation: the Province of Brasília, with the seat located in the federal capital of Brazil.
