The Vice Province of Nigeria gathered for her Annual Lenten Retreat from the March 21st to 25th 2023 at Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. This gathering welcomed the Superior General, Fr, Rogerio Gomes and Consultor General, Fr. Nicolas Ayouba visiting Nigeria for this retreat; alongside with a hundred and two confreres from twenty-six communities in the Vice Province being present. The atmosphere of the retreat took a joyful mood as it was an opportunity to stay together pray and to reconnect with the Redemptorist communal life.

All the retreat activities took place at the Redemptorist Spirituality Centre, Liguori house, while some confreres stayed at the Redeemer house community, just few minutes’ walk away.

His Lordship Bishop Hyacinth Egbebo MSP, the Catholic Bishop of Bomadi Vicariate anchored the retread, with the theme: “The Light of the World”. The conferences were enriching as they covered reflections in prayer, leadership, Mary and psychology, all leading the confreres, to Jesus, the Light, through whom the confreres are to reflect light to all people.

During the course of the retreat, three confreres marked their birthday celebrations (Fr. Andrew Ogbu, 21st March, Fr. Dominic Onwudinjor 23rd March and Fr. Gabriel Achu 24th March).

However, very important was the fact the Father General, Fr. Rogerio Gomes who officiated both the opening Mass of the Retreat and the closing Mass encouraged confreres to listen in order to experience Jesus our Redeemer, who is the Light for healing and reconciliation in the Vice Province. He concluded with the ceremony of commissioning confreres with the Redemptorist missionary cross.
