More celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Redemptorists in the Amazon

(Brazil) The celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Redemptorists’ presence in the Amazon continued at the Sanctuary of Nossa Aparecida in Manaus.

Indeed, it was the great day of the 80th anniversary of the Redemptorist Mission in the Amazon that was celebrated last Saturday, July 22, with a solemn mass officiated by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Manaus, Don Leonardo Steiner, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida. One of the guests at the celebration was Father Kevin Zubel of the Denver Province who testified of early Redemptorists as missionaries in that area and in the United States.

After mass, there was live music conducted by Father Sandro Duda in the external area of ​​the church. Then, at 16:00, the exhibition “Memorial of the Redemptorists – To Remember is to Live” was inaugurated. The program marks the end of a series of activities that were carried out in recent months, including the pilgrimage of the Redemptorist Cross through the municipalities of Amazonas and Acre.

On Sunday, July 16, the Saint Alphonsus Pastoral Center of the Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, Manaus was inaugurated. The space has two auditoriums, with a capacity of 80 to 100 people, as well as 14 rooms for carrying out pastoral activities and movements, including social services, such as psychological assistance, social assistance, speech therapy, and legal assistance, among others, offered by the parish esp. Father Soares and Father Clemente serve the community. According to the vice provincial of the Redemptorists of the Amazon, Father Amarildo Luciano, the premises bear the name of the priests as a form of homage for the life given to the Amazon.
