On Friday 15 September 2023, the Holy Father appointed Bishop Raymond Tapiwa Mupa, C.SS.R., currently Bishop of the Diocese of Chinhoyi, as Bishop of the Diocese of Masvingo (Zimbabwe).
He completed his philosophical studies, and then, in 1996, he entered the religious family of the Redemptorist Fathers, taking his final vows in 2001. He was ordained a priest in Hatcliffe (Harare) on 4 August of the same year.
After ordination to the priesthood, he served as Assistant parish priest in Mabvuku and Tafara in Harare (2001-2005), before serving as parish priest of Saint Gerard’s parish in Borrowdale (Harare) from 2007 to 2010.
He specialized in canon law at Saint Augustine’s College in South Africa (2001-2004; 2005-2007).
From 2010 to 2014, as Parish Priest of Saint Fidelis in Mabvuku and of Saint Alphonsus in Tafara; he was at the same time professor of moral theology at the Chishawasha Seminary (Harare); professor of canon law at the Collège Sainte Trinité. From 2015 to 2017 he was the regional superior of the Redemptorist Fathers in Harare. Monsignor Raymond Tapiwa Mupa was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Chinhoyi on 30 December 2017, a position he holds to this day.
