Fr. Ivan Dzhur, a Redemptorist from the Province of Canada, was ordained a priest on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in the Greek Catholic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Przemyśl, Poland.

The neopresbyter is a native of Ukraine, but he has done most of his religious and priestly formation in Poland (his novitiate), the USA and Canada. He is a member of the Province of Canada, which currently unites the Redemptorists of the Latin and Byzantine-Ukrainian rites.

Άξιος! Worthy! – is the cry of the liturgical assembly at the time of priestly ordination in the Greek rite, when the newly ordained puts on the vestments corresponding to his dignity. This was also the case on Thursday when Fr Ivan was ordained by Msgr Kenneth Nowakowski, eparch of London.

The ceremony was also attended by Msgr Eugene Popovich, Metropolitan of Przemyśl and Warsaw of the Greek Catholic Church in Poland, Fr. Michael Smolinski CSSR, Superior of the Redemptorist Province of Canada, Fr. Volodymyr Borejko CSSR, Superior of the Province of Lviv, Fr. Miroslav Bujdos CSSR, Superior of the Vice-Province of Michalovce, Fr. Mariusz Mazurkiewicz CSSR, Provincial Vicar from the Warsaw Province, as well as the Neopresbyter’s Family and guests from Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, USA and Canada.

Fr. Ivan will soon undertake his pastoral ministry in Winnipeg, Canada. Let us keep him in our prayers!
