“All for the sake of the Gospel”: Dn. Guilherme Dias Viana, C.Ss.R. was ordained priest at Guarulhos in Brazil

The first Priestly Ordination of the Redemptorist Province of Our Lady of Aparecida was held this Saturday, July 20, at 9 am, at the Santo Antônio Parish, in Guarulhos (SP).

Dn. Guilherme Dias Viana, C.Ss.R,  was ordained a priest, by the laying on of hands and Ordination Prayer of Mons. Edmilson Amador Caetano, Diocesan Bishop of Guarulhos. The motto of the ordination, chosen by the young missionary, was: “Omnia propter Evangelium,” which means “All for the sake of the Gospel” (I Cor 9:23) .

The celebration was attended by family and friends, the Provincial Superior of the Province of Our Lady of Aparecida, Father Marlos Aurélio da Silva, C.Ss.R., priests, brothers and junior members of the Redemptorist Congregation, religious men and women from other orders and congregations, as well as the local faithful. 

From a deeply religious family, Father Guilherme learned about the Redemptorist Congregation in 2011, through a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of Aparecida. Three years later, he began his formative process after completing the initial stage at the Santíssimo Redentor seminary, in Santa Bárbara d’Oeste (SP).

Vocational career of Father Guilherme Dias Viana:

Father Guilherme Dias Viana, C.Ss.R., the first son of Milton Viana (in memoriam) and Eulinda Dias Viana, was born in Guarulhos (SP) on July 7, 1996. From a deeply religious family, from childhood, he felt the call of God and the desire to consecrate himself to Him. He met the Redemptorist Congregation on a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of Aparecida in 2011 and in 2014 he began the formation process.

He completed the Aspirancy stage at the Santíssimo Redentor Seminary in Santa Bárbara d’Oeste (SP). Between 2015 and 2017, at the São Clemente Seminary in Campinas (SP), he completed the Postulancy stage and the Philosophy course at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas. In 2018 he lived at the Santa Terezinha Seminary in Tietê (SP), completing the Novitiate stage.

In 2019 he professed his first vows, beginning his Juniorate stage and his theological studies in São Paulo, when he lived in the Alphonsianum – Ipiranga community.

Between 2020 and 2022 he worked at the Nossa Senhora da Esperança parish in Sapopemba, also in the capital of São Paulo. After completing his theological studies at Itesp, he was sent to carry out his missionary training in Suriname, where he worked with Brazilian and Spanish-speaking immigrants. In 2024, he began living and working at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, in São João da Boa Vista (SP).
