A Community Response from Kunnambetta
In the wake of the devastating landslide in Chooralmala and Mundakai in Wayanad, Kerala, the Redemptorist community and Nithya Sahaya Matha Church at Kunnambetta have emerged as a beacon of hope and solidarity. Located approximately 20 kilometers from the affected area, our house has transformed into a collection centre of materials for the people in the relief camps. The centre here is directly overseen by the MLA’s office and in collaboration with local youth groups. The initiative has received great support, including visits from Trivandrum MP Sri. Shashi Tharoor and Kalpetta MLA Sri. T. Siddique. The inauguration of the distribution of collected materials was done by Sri. Siddique. Sri. Shashi Tharoor’s visit was very special as he arrived with a vehicle full of essential commodities.
The response from various organizations and individuals has been surprising. Contributions have come from a good number of sources to support the affected families. Notable contributors include: Karunya College Coimbatore, Seesha NGO and Jesus Calls Ministry Chennai, Morickap Resorts Wayanad, CocaCola Palakkad, Rajiv Youth Foundation Manjeri, and Youth Congress Kunnamkualam. These donations included groceries, clothes, stationery, mattresses, toiletries, medicines, and bakery items. The collection and distribution of relief materials will continue in the coming days. The distribution process will be managed with the help of local youth groups, guided by the MLA’s office, ensuring that aid reaches those who need them on time. In these challenging times, the collective response from various groups and people is a reminder of the power of unity and solidarity. As we work together to rebuild and recover, let us stand united in our efforts to bring hope and support to those suffering from the landslide’s aftermath.
