“We share with you a commemorative video of our first year as the Border Mission in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. During this time, we have worked to provide hope and support to those who follow in the footsteps of the Redeemer.” – the Mexican confreres share their joy for the first jubilee of their mission.

On their Facebook page “Pastoral Migrante”, the brothers from Reynosa Tamaulipas write about topics related to their mission among migrants. There they also present information about the principles that guide their daily work:

  • Let us treat every person with respect and dignity,
  • Let us defend the human rights of all, without distinction,
  • We create opportunities for every person to flourish.

Last week’s post was a reflection on the integration process. Effective integration involves acceptance and respect for cultural diversity, as well as equal access to services and opportunities, and participation in decision-making. This process seeks to create an inclusive and cohesive society, where migrants can maintain their cultural identity while feeling part of the host community. Integration includes several aspects such as language learning, cultural adaptation, job placement, access to education and health, and community and political participation.

The Redemptorist missionaries arrived in Mexico in 1908, giving rise to the current Province of Mexico. Today, collaborating with migrants is one of the missionary priorities of the province, in addition to the Itinerant Mission and the Indigenous Mission.
