It seems like just recently, the Redemptorists in Indonesia received a visit from the Superior General and his consultors during the “ASIOC Alphonsian Youth Gathering 2024.” The warm welcome and joyous celebration still linger in the hearts of the young people from Asia-Pacific who were involved in that memorable event.

Now, from October 7-13, 2024, the Redemptorists in Indonesia are once again honored to welcome special guests: Fr. Paul Vinh, CSsR, General Consultor, and Fr. Gerardo Hernández Carrasquillo, CSsR, Executive Secretary for Formation. Their arrival was celebrated with traditional Sumba customs, which were just as joyful. It was a true expression of fraternity from all of us to these two confreres.

This visit holds deep significance for the Redemptorist formandi, as it provided them with the opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with leadership about life in Redemptorist formation. They discussed the great hopes and challenges that both candidates and young Redemptorists face in their education and formative journey.

This visit was not just a moment for discussion, but also a pivotal event for the Redemptorists of Indonesia, offering enlightenment from the leadership of the Congregation. It opened up opportunities for each confrere to actively participate in both initial and ongoing formation, creating a stronger and more secure future for its members.

During the visit, they also attended a special celebration: the Silver Jubilee of Priesthood for Fr. Kimy Ndelo, CSsR, and Fr. Simon Tenda, CSsR, as well as the Silver Jubilee of Religious Life for Fr. Bence, CSsR. This joyful celebration took place at Rumah Budaya Sumba in Weetebula, marking a historic occasion.

The visit culminated in Sumba with the laying of the cornerstone for the new Redemptorist Postulancy House in Laipori on Sunday, October 13, 2024. This historic and hopeful event was attended by confreres, postulants, students from Pada Dita, and other invited guests.

We hope this visit further strengthens the guidance for Redemptorist candidates, enriches the education of young Redemptorists, and enhances the ongoing development of all Redemptorists at every stage of formation. Thank you for this meaningful visit. Let us continue to pray for each other. Press on and be courageous, sons of Alphonsus!

Copiosa apud eum Redemptio.

Fr. Willy Ng Pala, CSsR.
