With deep sorrow we announce the passing away of Fr. George Darlix, CSsR, the former Vicar General of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. He passed away on November 25 in Valence, France, at the age of 85. His funeral will be held on December 2. May he rest in peace.

The life of Father GEORGES DARLIX

Georges was born on July 25, 1939 in Aubenas, Ardèche. He was baptized 5th July 30 in Aubenas. He was the 4th of five children born to Albert Darlix and Jeanne Mounier. He attended the primary school at Saint Etienne de Fontbellon, before entering the Redemptorist juniorate in Tullins, Isère. He stayed there from 1952 to 1959.  He did his novitiate in Gannat, Allier, from 1959 to 1960, and made his first profession on October 16, 1960, the feast of Saint Gérard Majella. He studied at the major seminary in Sousceyrac (Lot) and Dreux (28). He was ordained a deacon on March 19, 1966 in Tullins and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1967 in his home diocese in Viviers in Ardèche.

Communities, ministries and responsibilities

After his ordination, Georges was sent as a missionary to Marseille in 1967. From 1968 to 1984, he worked as a parish priest and was involved in pastoral care for migrants.

– He became Superior of the Marseille community.
– From 1984-1991 he was provincial of the Lyon province, living in Champagne au Mont d’Or near Lyon.
– From 1984 to 1990, he was national head of the Maghreb Committee.
– He was Consultor General of the Redemptorist Congregation from 1991 to 1997 (Rome)
– He was Vicar General of the Redemptorist Congregation from 1997 to 2003 (Rome)
– He was superior of the Paris Montparnasse community from 2003 to 2010
– He was superior of the Valence community from 2011 to 2021
– He died on Monday 25 number 2024 at the hospital in Valence, France. He was 85 years old.

Life in Valence, his last community

Georges arrived in Valence in 2010. On January 21, 2011, Roger Michel, then provincial of the Lyon-Paris province, appointed him superior of the community. He was superior of this community until August 1, 2021, after 10 years of loyal service to the community and to Saint Joseph’s chapel. In recent years, Georges devoted much of his time to the ministry of reconciliation and to preaching the hope and mercy that are in God. May Christ the Redeemer, in whom he placed all his trust, give him the reward of the ‘good and faithful servant’!

The funeral ceremony will take place on Monday 02 December at 10 am in the chapel of the Valence community at 10 Chemin Saint Joseph 2600 Valence.
