Rev. Fr. Sanath Fernando, CSsR., Director of the Shrine, speaks about the beautiful little shrine set amidst tranquility dedicated to her Santa Maria our Holy Mary that holds Jesus, the marble statue which one sees is something unique to Santa Maria the statue is unique to the Redemptorists here in Sant Maria because it was brought all the way from Italy.

Fr Sanath narrates to us about a very special place important for two main reasons the first reason is Santa Maria the mother House of the Redemptorist missionaries in South Asia in India and Sri Lanka the second reason is the little Shrine, the first shrine dedicated to our mother of Perpetual Help in Sri Lanka. He then continues to speak of the Statue of Madonna and child on the front lawn at Santa Maria was the work of Father Tom who was made the superior of Santa Maria on the 26th August 1950, contacted with the sculptor Dario to reproduce it.

Fr Shanti Abeyasinghe CSsR,  explains about the uniqueness of the altar which was built in October 1946 to be one of the most unique altars made out of wood in the whole of Sri Lanka. Thanks to Father Arthur Mone from Ireland.

Apostolic work of preaching Parish missions and Retreats moreover it was from Kandy that the Pioneers went to Bangalore find the first community of Redemptorists in India in 1940 in that sense the Redemptorist foundation in the Indian subcontinent Kandy Santa Maria to be precise could rightly call itself the mother House of Redemptorists in India and Sri Lanka.

Redemptorist continue to render the great service that they have always done in accordance with the devotion of their congregation. May God and Our Lady of Perpetual Help guide and bless the Redemptorist Community. Fr Shanti continues with his personal testimony of meeting God through the community and through redemptorist priest in this place and continued the novena in honor of the Mother of Perpetual Help.
