The parish of San Antonio de Padua, under the guidance of the Redemptorist Fathers, located in the heart of Guayama, Puerto Rico, is enthusiastically preparing to be one of the host locations of the 6th American Missionary Congress (CAM 6) to be held from November 19 to 24, 2024. This missionary event, which brings together delegates from all over Latin America and the Caribbean, is a space to renew the missionary spirit and strengthen the evangelizing commitment of the Church. On this occasion, the parish will have the honor of receiving missionaries from different countries, who will be welcomed by the warmth and hospitality of the community.
The American Missionary Congress, in its 6th edition, is a special event of universal missionary animation, which has the richness of sharing experiences, difficulties and making decisions for a renewed missionary impulse. All the particular Churches of America participate, represented by bishops, priests, religious and lay people of ecclesial movements and community leaders.
From November 19 to 24, 2024, Puerto Rico and the entire Caribbean will become a gateway to strengthen the roots and recapitulate the faith of the particular Churches of the continent. In numbers, CAM6 has 1,200 participants, 1,100 international delegates and 400 organizers and volunteers who will share a few days of missionary commitment in the American continent.
In the Redemptorist parish of Guayama
The four Redemptorists, Fr. Edgar L. Torres C.Ss.R., Fr. José Rached C.Ss.R., Fr. Felipe Santiago, C.Ss.R., and Fr. Felipe Andrews, C.Ss.R., have begun a series of activities with the parish to prepare both the community and the facilities for the arrival of the missionaries. Father Edgar said, “This is a moment of grace for our community. Not only do we welcome the missionaries with joy, but we unite as a family in the common mission of bringing the message of Christ to all corners of the continent.”
Father Philip Andrews added: “Responding as good missionaries to this initiative encourages all of us to continue working for a Church more committed to evangelization. The congress is an opportunity for the faithful and priests of Guayama to strengthen their missionary identity and to continue to be witnesses of Christ’s love in their daily lives.” The 6th American Missionary Congress promises to be a milestone in the missionary life of the Church in America, and the parish of St. Anthony of Padua in Guayama is ready to play its part in this important event.
