The Rector of the Shrine, Fr Gianni Congiu CSsR, presided over the Christmas Eve Mass celebrated in the church of St Alphonsus in Rome, on the threshold between 24 and 25 December. Among the concelebrants were Fr Francisco Stanula, CSsR, Vicar General, and some members of the General Government.
In his homily, Fr Gianni shared the Christmas proclamation with the confreres of the international community of St Alphonsus and the faithful gathered for the solemn celebration.
In the Gospel of Luke, the angels announce the birth of Jesus to the shepherds with these words: ‘Fear not, behold, I announce to you a great joy, which will be to all the people: today in the city of David a Saviour has been born to you, who is Christ the Lord.’ (Luke 2:10-11)
This year, the message of joy and peace brought by the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem resonates even louder, as only a few hours earlier, Pope Francis opened the doors of St. Peter’s Basilica, initiating Jubilee 2025.
