The campaign aims to boost education and reduce school dropouts.
On Tuesday, February 11, the Shrine of Perpetual Help in Curitiba (PR) began distributing more than 3,500 school kits to the children from needy families in the neighborhoods of Vilas União, Pontarola, Formosa and Guaporé. The initiative will continue during the week, also reaching Vilas Torres and Pantanal.
Each kit includes a backpack, notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers, pencil sharpeners and a ruler, and is primarily intended for elementary school students from 1st to 5th grade.
According to Father Joaquim Parron, CSsR, Redemptorist and coordinator of the campaign, the initiative aims to combat school dropout, one of the most serious challenges for children in vulnerable situations.
“We have a high rate of school dropouts, and, through our research, we have discovered that one of the main causes is the lack of school supplies. For this reason, we have been carrying out this campaign for six years,” said Father Parron.

The campaign is supported by civil society and reinforces the importance of education for citizenship.
“Without basic education, children become more vulnerable to social exclusion. The involvement of the community and partner organizations has been essential to ensure that these materials reach those who need them most, demonstrating everyone’s commitment to a better future,” the Redemptorist missionary emphasized.

The Sanctuary of Perpetual Help in Curitiba supports several solidarity initiatives to help families in difficulty. Among these, the Comunidade Terapêutica Perpétuo Socorro stands out, which since 2012 has offered free treatment and social reintegration for people affected by chemical addictions.
