New Redemptorist bishop in Brazil: His Excellency Antonio Ranis, CSsR.

The Holy Father has appointed Reverend Father Antônio Ranis Rosendo Dos Santos, C.Ss.R.,as Bishop of Caicó (Brazil) until now parish priest of the Most Holy Redeemer in Arapiraca-AL, in the diocese of Penedo.

Curriculum vitae

Monsignor Antônio Ranis, CSsR. was born in Porto da Folha, Sergipe, Brazil, on 3 September 1973. He is the son of Raimundo Rosendo dos Santos and Maria Lúcia Resende de Menezes. He entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer and professed his first vows on 2 February 2002, in the community of Our Mother of Perpetual Help – Madalena – Recife. He studied Philosophy at the Catholic University of Pernambuco, Theology at the Pastoral Theological Institute of Ceará, and Canon Law at the Higher Institute of Canon Law in Rio de Janeiro.

On June 30, 2005, he professed his perpetual religious vows in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, in the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes (Monastery of the Capuchin Friars) in Guaramiranga – CE. He was ordained deacon on December 8, 2005 by Auxiliary Bishop Sérgio da Rocha, of the Archdiocese of Fortaleza, in the Mother Church of São Geraldo – Fortaleza – CE.

With the laying on of hands of Monsignor José Palmeira Lessa, of the Archdiocese of Aracaju – SE, in the Parish of Nossa Senhora da Glória, in Nossa Senhora da Glória – SE, on June 16, 2006, he was ordained a priest. After his ordination, he dedicated himself to pastoral work in parishes and as a formator. In 2010 he was elected Vice Provincial for the four-year period 2011-2014, with the task of directing and organizing the Vice Province of Recife. In recent years he has served as parish priest, formator and is currently parish priest of the Mother Church of the Most Holy Redeemer – Arapiraca – AL.
