From 1 to 8 February 2025, the Week of Mobilization and Prayer is taking place in Rome. Sister Carmen Ugarte OSR, as coordinator of Talitha Kum in Latin America and the Caribbean, together with Cindy Muñoz, representative of the young leaders of Talitha Kum in Uruguay, are participating in this international meeting.

“Ambassadors of hope, together against human trafficking” is the motto chosen for this World Day in line with the jubilee and feast of Saint Josephine Bakhita, a universal symbol of the Church’s commitment to combat the phenomenon of Human Trafficking and Forced Migration.

This is the second year that an international meeting has been held with the young Talitha Kum Ambassadors with a very complete programme: sharing experiences, looking at and reflecting on the reality of trafficking, working in workshops, going on a pilgrimage to the Holy Doors, an audience with Pope Francis and, of course, various prayer spaces prior to the World Day online. All of this will conclude with a new call to action by young people worldwide against human trafficking.

In light of the Jubilee, as pilgrims of hope on this XI World Day:

We continue to denounce the commercialization and exploitation of people in all its forms, and we cannot allow it to be accepted or normalized.

We pray as brothers and sisters of all ages, cultures, and religious confessions for the eradication of human trafficking and all forms of exploitation. We pray for the traffickers and the people involved in the chain of exploitation, that God may change their hearts.

We want to raise awareness at all levels, we want to continue creating awareness of the mystical-prophetic dimension that commits us to defend and protect the most vulnerable, such as girls, boys, and women, and to support survivors in their new life project.

We continue to call on States to honour their commitments and guarantee the rights of victims and survivors.

This is our time! Like the women of the Dawn, those who hold on to hope, clinging to the promise, and with Saint Josephine Bakhita, may we dare to cross the night to awaken the world and with tenderness and courage walk confidently hand in hand with Our God in the eradication of Human Trafficking. Amen
