This is the first priestly ordination from Spain after the formation of a new province of Europe South. It took place on Saturday 15 February at 7:30 pm in the community of Perpetual Help in Madrid, presided over by the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, Don José Cobo.

“Saint Alphonsus called the priest a man of God and a man of the People, and he did so in a united way. He did not mean a priest shut up in the Church, but a priest who went out to meet everyone, especially those most in need,” were the words of the Archbishop of Madrid in the homily addressed to Javier.

Father Gennaro Sorrentino (Provincial Superior), numerous Spanish Redemptorists and some representation of the diocesan clergy of Madrid and Santander attended (Javier is originally from Santander, in the north of Spain, although he currently carries out his pastoral work in the community of San Gerardo in Madrid).

Javi, as his friends have always called him, professed his first vows in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer at the age of 20 on September 9, 2018 in Santander, Spain.

He studied Theology at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, and then continued his studies at the Pontifical University of Comillas. He was ordained deacon in the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Madrid on October 21, 2023, by Cardinal José Cobo, Archbishop of Madrid.
