In conjunction with the 75th anniversary of Novena Church, which is ministered by the Redemptorists from the Vice-Province and Malaysia & Singapore, the faithful from all walks of life gathered for a morning walk at East Coast Park on Saturday, March 22, embracing the beauty of nature and community. The Novena Church Family Walk 2025 was a time of fellowship, prayer, and reflection, as families and friends came together to mark this milestone in faith.
Participants were picked up from two locations—Church of St. Alphonsus (Novena Church) and St. Joseph’s Institution Junior—before being dropped off at the starting point at East Coast Park. Some spent the journey in prayer, praying the Novena together on the bus, while others engaged in heartfelt conversations, forming new bonds across generations. It was a touching sight—a community walking together as one family of God.
This year’s anniversary carries the theme “Gratitude and Hope: Remember, Rejoice, Renew,” reflecting on Novena Church’s 75-year presence with thanksgiving while looking ahead with faith. The celebrations are anchored in three key principles: Remembrance, Rejoice, and Renewal.
Upon arrival at East Coast Park, the morning began with an opening prayer led by Father Gerard, setting the tone for the walk. Father Terence then encouraged participants to take the opportunity to engage meaningfully with one another as fellow members of the Body of Christ.
Dressed in matching blue shirts, carrying coordinated bags and umbrellas, the group of around 200 participants set off from East Coast Park McDonald’s. The organising team and volunteers in black ensured road safety and smooth movement along the path, guiding the crowd while ensuring the public’s access remained unobstructed.
As they walked, families exchanged stories of their childhood visits to Novena, bringing the spirit of Remembrance to life. Parents pointed out landmarks to their children, reminiscing about past experiences, while young ones energetically completed the 2kms walk, making new friends along the way. Their laughter echoed through the park, a joyful reminder of what it means to Rejoice in faith and community.
At the final stop, light refreshments were distributed, and the event concluded with a moment of prayer, as participants gathered to seek Mother Mary’s intercession and blessings. This final act of devotion symbolized Renewal, reinforcing the bonds of faith and unity among all who took part.
A highlight of the event was a lucky draw giveaway, with Father Sikstus, Father Terence, and Father Ino distributing prizes to delighted winners, adding an element of excitement to the day’s celebrations.
The success of this event was made possible through the dedication of the organising committee, ministries, and volunteers, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Special thanks go to all who joined in, walking together in faith and gratitude, making this milestone celebration one to remember.
