The Congregation of the Oblate Sisters of the Most Holy Redeemer joyfully welcomed three Sisters Veronica, Christilyn and Nancy who, a year ago, embarked on a new missionary journey in Indonesia, responding with generosity and faith to the Lord’s call. They arrived on the island of Sumba to begin a new foundation, living a year of dedication, learning and profound encounter with a rich and diverse culture.
During these twelve months, the nuns have integrated with simplicity and openness into the life of the country: learning the language, knowing the local reality, and discovering with respect and joy the customs, traditions and spirituality of the people who welcomed them. This first anniversary is not only a significant date, but also the fruit of a journey that continues to be woven day after day, with hope and commitment.
We share the words they shared with us, as a sign of gratitude:
“DON’T BE AFRAID, I AM ALWAYS IN FRONT OF YOU.”
“A year ago, we were very excited and a little nervous to land in the place where we believe we were sent, and where God was calling us: Sumba, Indonesia. It has been described as a forgotten island, but in reality, it is a paradise rich in faith, culture, and traditions. We would never have gotten to where we are and what we have today without the help of wonderful people.”
“We express our thanks and gratitude to all the people who have been part of our journey: to the Diocese of Weetebula, led by Bishop Edmund Woga, CSsR, for welcoming us; to the Redemptorists of Indonesia, with the Provincial Fr. Jack Umbu Warata, CSsR, for their extraordinary support; and to the Parish of Karuni, led by Fr. Robi, CSsR, for their generous hospitality. Thank you all for your constant and unconditional help. God bless you.”
