(Bielsko-Biała, Poland) A dark red habit, a self-written act of profession, a veil, a little book containing constitutions and statutes of the order, and a Cross – these are the signs accompanying sister Magdalena Żerdzińska when she made her religious vows on April 18, 2020, in the convent chapel of the Redemptorist Sisters in Bielsko-Biała.

The Eucharist, transmitted online, was presided over by a Redemptorist Father Andrzej Mikuć. Due to the state of the epidemic, only Redemptorists from the Bielsko-Biała community participated in the event. Others, including Roman Pindel, Bishop of Bielsko-Żywiec, were spiritually connected via the Internet.

Sister Magdalena, a military engineer by education, took her vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience from Elbląg in the only Redemptorist house in Poland. The Superior of the Bielsko community Sr. Urszula Nowińska OSsR explained that Sister Magdalena experienced the power of the Risen Christ and wanted to go through life in union with Him.

During the celebration, the Redemptorist sister, who took the vows for three years, read and signed the act of profession and put on the veil for the first time, as a sign of loyalty to Jesus. She also adopted the constitutions and statutes of the Order, the Cross and the Book of the Liturgy of the Hours.

Finally, she played the guitar and sang. Then she listened to Mendelssohn’s wedding march played for her.

S. Magdalena Żerdzińska comes from Elbląg and studied in Warsaw at the Military Technical Academy. She is an engineer. She belonged to the “Water of Life” community, led by Father Roman Trzciński. She was also a music animator there. She loves music. She met the Redemptorist community during her retreat.

She joined the monastery in March 2017 and began her formation first in postulancy and then in the novitiate.

The Redemptorist sisters, nuns of the Order of the Most Holy Redeemer, wear dark red habits. The Order was founded in the Italian town of Scala in 1731 by the Italian mystic Sister Maria Celeste Crostarosa, who was beatified in 2016. The world is ok. There are 40 Redemptorist monasteries present on all continents.

The Redemptorist monastery is located on Trzy Lipki – a hill from which one of the most beautiful panoramas of Bielsko-Biała and the Beskids stretches.
