Dedication of St. Alphonsus Church in Vietnam

On Saturday morning, May 1, 2021, Bishop Matthew Nguyen Van Khoi, Bishop of Quy Nhon Diocese, cut the inauguration ribbon and dedicates the church of Saint Alphonsus in Tra Xuan Town, Tra Bong District, Quang Ngai Province in Vietnam.

Concelebrating with Bishop Matthew were the Vicar General of the Diocese, Fr. Joseph Nguyen Ngoc Bich, Provincial of the Redemptorist Congregation of Vietnam, Fr. Joseph Nguyen Quoc Viet, Superior of the local community and Mission Leader of Chau O Parish, several priests belonging to Quang Ngai Deanery, many priests of the diocese with Redemptorist fathers from many different communities.

St. Alphonsus Church belongs to Tra Bong Community of Chau O Parish, Quy Nhon Diocese. There are about 300 parishioners. In 2016, Bishop Matthew blessed the cornerstone to start constructing the church of St. Alphonsus, which lasted over 4 years. Now the new church can bring joy to people in this missionary area of Quang Ngai Province.

Tra Bong is a vast mountainous area in the Northwest of Quang Ngai province. Over the past 50 years, this missionary land has been given to the Redemptorists by the Diocese to proclaim the Good News.
