A team of Redemptorist missionaries from the Vice Province of Manila have been preaching to Indigenous people in the mountains of northern Luzon, Philippines from August 27 to September 8, 2023.
The mission team, which is composed of priests, deacons, and laypeople of two communities (Lipa and Laoag), has been visiting villages in the parish of Our Lady of Visitation in Ifugao. In addition to preaching during mass, the team has also been visiting each family and parish in the six Ifugao villages of the parish.
The mission for the Indigenous people in Northern Luzon is a new direction for the Vice-Province of Manila. The bishop of the diocese officially handed over the missionary mission to the Redemptorist community on Sunday, the 2nd of July 2023. The mission in Ifugao is a continuation of the Redemptorists’ long history of serving the poor and the marginalized.
The Redemptorists are a Catholic religious order founded in 1732 by St. Alphonsus Liguori. Their mission is to preach the Gospel to the poor and the marginalized.
The people of Ifugao have welcomed the Redemptorist missionaries with open arms. They are eager to learn more about the Catholic faith and to receive the sacraments.
