As we are aware, the Second Session of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on Synodality started on Wednesday, October 2nd. It brought together bishops, priests, and laypeople for nearly a month, from October 2nd to October 27th, for in-depth discussions on the future of the Catholic Church.

The event began with a solemn Eucharistic celebration in St. Peter’s Square at 9:30 a.m. Pope Francis opened the session with a warm greeting and focused on listening to the Holy Spirit and embracing a synodal Church.

On this occasion, we had an interview with Fr. Vimal Tirimanna, a Redemptorist, by Fr. Sanjay Tirkey. Fr. Vimal is one of the theological advisers to the synod and a professor of Moral Theology at the National Seminary of Our Lady of Lanka, Kandy in Sri Lanka and the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy, Rome. During the interview, Fr. Vimal briefed us about what happened during the first week’s synodal assembly. He spoke about some of the “hot-button” issues of the synodal process. He also expressed some thoughts on the female diaconate and so on. It was a colloquial conversation presenting the soul of the assembly.

We look forward to the next episode at the end of the third week of the assembly. Please follow the YouTube link to stay updated on the synodal journey.
