On November 7-8, the Region of Korea held its annual Assembly in Seoul, where confreres gathered to share experiences, insights, and mutual concerns. Since joining the Province of Thailand in June 2022, the Region now includes local confreres and three missionaries from Cebu, Vietnam, and Thailand who work together in this mission area. Additionally, one Korean confrere currently serves in Japan.
The Assembly’s first day featured updates and reflections from various communities. The Region comprises two canonical houses in Seoul and Hongcheon, along with a mission house in Gwangju. Reports were also presented by the Secretariats, Committees, and the Regional Council.
On the second day, discussions focused on the state of Redemptorist vocations in South Korea, with attention to potential improvements in the formation program, given the current state of the candidates. Confreres also explored ways to revitalize devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help.
In the afternoon, Fr. Peter Jittapol, Provincial of Thailand, provided updates on the Confederation and addressed emerging challenges faced by various units, including the decline in vocations, leadership development, financial concerns, safeguarding issues, and individualism. The Assembly concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Fr. Casimiro, the Regional Superior.
