Mons. Alfonso Amarante CSsR, Rector of the Lateran University, in an interview with Vatican media, speaks about the mission of the Pontifical University, the challenges and related projects in view of the inauguration of the new academic year.
As Msgr. Amarante explains, the current vision of the university places the person at the center, who must be the starting point for planning, teaching programming and other elements of academic activity.
Bishop Amarante also speaks of the challenges that the university must face. One of these is to ensure that the theology that takes place there has a clear pastoral context, that it is close to human events. In this regard he cites Pope Francis, who insists on a theology that “smells of flesh and of the people.”
Msgr. Amarante also mentions the need to develop cooperation between ecclesiastical institutions and to improve the quality of universities, which is increasingly important with the decreasing number of students.
