Reflection on the prospects and directions of the apostolic life of the Polish Redemptorists and the revision of some internal law texts were the main themes of the session of the XVIII Chapter of the Warsaw Province of the Redemptorists, which concluded in Tuchów, near Tarnów, on Friday, 22 November 2024.

During several days of work, the Chapter participants revised the entire Provincial Statute, modifying about a third of it, as well as about ten points of the Provincial Chapter Directory and the Rules of Conduct during the work.

The Provincial Chapter also issued a statement on the attacks on Radio Maryja and the works connected to it, expressing solidarity in the activities of evangelization and formation with Father Tadeusz Rydzyk, all Redemptorists, nuns, lay employees and volunteers of Radio Maryja, Trwam Television, the Academy of Social and Media Culture and other institutions growing around the radio station in Toruń.

They also expressed, among other things, their opposition to attacks, slander, denigration of their good name and often outright lies by some public figures and parts of the media against the institutions and individuals mentioned above.

The perspectives and directions of the apostolic life of the Province found space on the last day of the meeting, where work on the theme began. The discussion highlighted the need to further address the issue, organizing regional meetings for further common listening, strengthening awareness and reflection on the different areas of the Redemptorist apostolate.

During the Chapter, the Wednesday novena at the Shrine also saw the entrustment of the entire Province – apostolate, community, and cause of vocations – to Our Lady of Tuchov.

The Superior of the Province, Fr. Dariusz Paszyński CSsR, summarized the work by emphasizing, among other things, that the motto of the current six-year term of the Redemptorist Congregation, “Missionaries of Hope in the footsteps of the Redeemer,” corresponds to the next Holy Year. St. Alphonsus Liguori was also a missionary of hope, a fact clearly emphasized in the letter of St. John Paul II for the 200th anniversary of the death of St. Alphonsus.

The Chapter was attended by Redemptorists working in Poland and in many parts of the world (Europe, North America, and Asia). Also present were the superiors of the nearby Lviv Province, Father Volodymyr Borejko CSsR and the Bratislava-Prague Province, Father Jozef Mihok CSsR. Father Piotr Chyła CSsR, the new coordinator of the Conference of Redemptorists of Europe, served as the spiritual leader of the Chapter.
