Bro. Dan Korn, C.Ss.R., displays mobile retreat “Mary Pray For Us” on his phone.
Redemptorists Move Online to Mark 150th Jubilee
2016 was an important year for the Redemptorists online ministries. In a span of three months, Redemptorists online ministries launched three digital courses to Our Mother of Perpetual Help marking the 150 Jubilee of her Icon.
Over 10,000 devotees of Mary have downloaded these contemplative prayer resources. Each devotion provides a weekly series of spiritual practices that weld Marian spirituality to the needs and concerns of busy 21st-century lives.
Mary Pray For Us
The first course inspired by Bro. Dan Korn, C.Ss.R., is a mobile retreat app to Mary called “Mary Pray For Us.” Its practices move people closer to Jesus by making Mary their daily mobile companion. It is an easy-to-use, seven-day Retreat that features the Redemptorists’ signature approach to affective prayer from the heart. It features brief instructions, reflections, prayers, and beautiful artwork of Our Mother of Perpetual Help.
The app offers audio versions of the reflections and daily inspirational messages during the period of each month’s retreat. Each month also features a new “Eighth Reflection” to refresh and reinvigorate.
“Mary Pray for Us” was one of only a handful of Catholic apps featured on August 15’s Assumption podcast of Radio Maria’s Carmelite Spirituality Conversations. Additionally, the app was called “incredibly edifying” and “tremendous for helping people to pray” by Catholic Apptitude, the foremost online source for reviews and recommendations of Catholic mobile apps.
Inspirations include St. Alphonsus’ writings on the practice of prayer; numerous Redemptorist missions to Our Mother of Perpetual Help; the preachings of Bro. Dan Korn, C.Ss.R.; and the writings of Fr. Dennis Billy, C.Ss.R.
